Not looking like spring -
One of the cooler springs on record will continue into this weekend in the Sierra and Lake Tahoe — with unsettled weather, clouds, wind and rain or snow possible.
A ridge of high pressure in the east is keeping a trough of low pressure in place off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, and that trough is spinning energy our way every 48 hours or so.
The next wave is due Friday afternoon. Most of the action will be north of Interstate 80. But Tahoe could see some snow starting late Friday, with light accumulations possible by Saturday morning. Snow levels will probably dip to 6,000 feet and possibly lower.
Saturday will be unusually cold as a cold front moves through, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below normal. Highs around the Lake will probably not reach the 40s.
Snow showers may linger into Sunday before we begin a warming trend for the start of the week. But more cool weather may be ahead of us.
As one measure of how mild this spring has been, Sacramento has yet to see a day above 90 degrees. The last time that city made it to June 1 without a 90-degree day was 1971.
Bundle up, and enjoy the weekend.
